👋 Hey from Brandon
The kids are heading back to class across OC, and there’s a change that’s easy to miss: your dog’s whole world just got quieter. A house that was full of people all summer suddenly empties out at 8am. Some pups take it in stride; others get anxious. This issue is about making that transition smoother — plus a couple of yard things worth knowing as we creep toward fall.
🌱 Season’s Yard Tip: Watch for the “return of the green”
Late August is when OC lawns start waking back up as the worst heat begins to ease. If you’ve been holding back on water, you’ll see growth pick up again — which means it’s a good time to check your mower height and get back on a consistent schedule. Here’s the dog-owner catch: more grass growth plus lingering warmth means waste still breaks down fast and flies are still active. Don’t ease off the daily scooping just because summer’s winding down; the flies haven’t gotten the memo yet.
🐾 Pup Health Corner: Easing separation anxiety
When the summer crowd disappears from the house, signs of stress can show up as pacing, whining, accidents, destructive chewing, or excessive barking. A few things that genuinely help: Practice short departures — leave for 5–10 minutes and come back, calmly, so alone-time stops feeling like a big event. Burn energy in the morning — a brisk early walk before the pavement heats up means a calmer, sleepier dog during school hours. Leave a “job” — a frozen stuffed Kong or a puzzle feeder turns your exit into something to look forward to. And keep goodbyes boring — no big emotional send-off; low-key comings and goings tell your dog this is all normal. If anxiety is severe or new, it’s worth a conversation with your vet.
📍 Around OC: Squeeze in a park run before homework
Shorter evenings are coming, so make the daylight count. OC’s off-leash dog parks are a great weeknight energy-burner:
Irvine Central Bark — separate areas for large and small dogs.
Costa Mesa Bark Park — a longtime local favorite.
Newport Beach Dog Park and Laguna Beach Dog Park for the coastal crowd.
Bring water, go around golden hour when it’s cooled off, and you’ll have a tired, happy dog by bedtime.
⭐ Featured Pup: Cooper from Laguna Niguel
Cooper is a border collie who, his family says, “took the first day of school harder than the kids did.” They started leaving him with a frozen peanut-butter Kong and a mid-day pack walk, and he’s settling in. We keep his yard clean so his afternoon zoomies stay mess-free. 🧡

A Coto de Caza client asked me this week if we could add a deodorizer treatment now that the family’s home less during the day and wanted the yard extra fresh for weekend guests. Took two minutes to add to the visit. Little upgrades like that are some of my favorite parts of the route.
👉 One quick thing
Already a customer? Make your service do more. A few upgrades our clients love this time of year: a deodorizer add-on for a fresh-smelling yard, especially nice for entertaining; going weekly if you’re on biweekly, since lingering summer warmth keeps flies and odor down; and adding photo confirmation so you always know the gate’s latched and the job’s done. Just reply to this email or call (714) 831-5855 and we’ll set it up — no contract, cancel anytime.
Hang in there through the back-to-school shuffle — your pup will adjust faster than you’d think.
